It was a busy weekend for Atlantic Sires Stakes Action. It started Friday evening at Truro Raceway when the 3 year old fillies hit the track for 2 A Divisions going for purses of $10,600.
In the first division Bellafornow circled the field from last to first and stopping the clock in 156/3 for her first win of the year. Co owned by trainer/driver Clare MacDonald along with Dan Kaiser. Woodmere Skyroller was second and Elm Grove Ocean third.
The second Division Na Naa Said So won in 156 for driver Redmond Doucett and trainer Robert MacLeod and owners Hugh MacEachern and Ali MacEachern. Streakanza finished second and Watch Me Dance rallied for third.
Saturday saw the action move to Northside Downs, where the 2 and 3 year old trotters and 3 year old colts highlighted the card of racing. The three year old trotters were first to hit the track and Mabou Ridge won in a lifetime best of 159/3, the short field of four saw Go With Her second and Tequila Tuesday finished third. Mabou Ridge is owned by Arnold Rankin and trained and driven by Clare MacDonald.
The two year old trotters racing for a purse of $15,380 saw Mabou Ridge’s full brother Mr Finlay Ridge win in a time of 207/2. Co owned by trainer/driver Clair MacDonald along with Arnold Rankin and Ian Tate. Dusty Lane Milo and Galowind rounded out the top three.
The three year old colts were impressive in the two short fields. The first division with a purse of $9,240 was won by Mr Kelly, trained by Melissa Rennie and driven by Adam Merner for owners Marsha Knox and Kyla and Wade MacDonald.
The second division saw Harry G winning by more than ten lengths in a quick 155/4. Paul Langille trains and drives the colt for owners Arleen, Chantel and Christina Gillis.
The alone B Division was won by Theycallmedude in line For Clare MacDonald for owners Todd & Trish Hardy.
The weekend ended in Inverness with a track record performance by the 2 year old colt Woodmere Steeldeal. Owned by Bob Sumarah and Kevin Dorey. Trained by Danny Romo and driven by Marc Campbell. The colt is perfect in his Atlantic Sire Stakes and sits a top the point standings. Steel Reefer finished second and Woodmere Alvi rallied for third. The second A Division was won by Rotten Ronnie, Redmond Doucett owns the colt and trained by Lennan MacIsaac. Dusty Lane Goliath and Dusty Lane Morgan finished second and third.
The 2 year old fillies were also in Inverness and Gilles Barrieau drove all three division winners of the $7,040 purses.
Maggiesdelight trains and co owned by Michelle Myers along with Roger MacDonald won the first division in 159/3
The Next Generation Stable owns Woodmere Stella who won the second Division for trainer Earl Smith. The Real McCoy and Somebodys Me was second and third.
The last filly division was won by Vicky Everyday owned and trained by Paul Conway.
One Division each of B colts and fillies took to the track with California Jack and Mystifying winning their respective races.
Atlantic Sires Stakes continue during Old Home Week the week of August 14 to 22, 2020 at Red Shores Charlottetown.
