Gettin Messi Cleans Up In Sires Stakes

By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores
SUMMERSIDE, PE – There was no stopping Gettin Messi’s advance to the winner’s circle in Atlantic Sires Stakes action Tuesday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing.
Leaving from post 4 in his $6,180 Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old trot contest, Gettin Messi settled into third place but then driver Mike McGuigan launched the champion trotter first-over to secure the lead past the half-mile marker. Trained by Len McGuigan for owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale, Gettin Messi stopped the clock in 2:00 over a closing Thelastonestanding (Driven by Brian MacPhee). Third went to Dreamboat Annie (Barrieau).
Ya Boy Bear won the second three-year-old sires stakes division in 2:00 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Michael Bailey of Morell. Richnsnotherndream (Kenny Arsenault) was second with race favourite Mile Hill Willie (Barrieau) recovering from an early break in stride to finish third.
Little Miss Winnie won the final three-year-old split but the Arsenault driven trotter was placed back to seventh for being inside three consecutive pylons in the first quarter of the race. That placing put second-place finisher Ableway (Steven Shepherd) into the winner’s circle while Hard Case (Mark Bradley) was placed up to second and Dusty Lane Titan (Campbell) was placed into third. Ableway is owned and trained by Carl Bagnall of Stratford.
Mabou Ridge captured the lone Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old trot division with a 2:06.1 maiden breaking score for the lion’s share of the $15,720 pot. Clare MacDonald trains and drives the son of Armbro Barrister for owner Arnold Rankin of Antigonish, N.S. Westview Star (Campbell) rode the pocket to finish second while Go With Her (Kuri White) used first-over tactics to complete the triactor ticket.
