Atlantic Sires Stakes Pacers On Tap At Red Shores

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Over 30 rookie pacing colts will begin their quest towards the Atlantic Breeder’s Crown in stakes action Thursday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as Governor’s Plate Week racing continues.
The 10-dash Thursday evening card gets underway at 6:30 P.M. featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts in a trio of A-divisions and two B-divisions.
The first $9,080 A-split lines up in race 3 and Tasteslikeanother is favoured from the rail with Mark Bradley in the seat for trainer Tom Weatherbie and Island owners Kyle and Joseph Gardiner, Mike Currie and Jerry MacKinnon. The two-year-old son of Articulator has recorded one lifetime start so far in his young career with a fourth place finish pacing in 2:01 at Red Shores Charlottetown. Other top entrants in the field of five are Tobins Rebel (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) from post 4 after a 15-length romp in his qualifier and post 5 starter Scarlet Archer (Marc Campbell).
Race 6 has another $9,080 A-division as the favourites continue to leave from post 1 with Krispy Crunch drawing the rail fresh off a third place finish in 2:00 in his debut for driver Mike McGuigan, trainer Len McGuigan and owner Jeff MacLennan of Charlottetown. Red Dirt Fulofhart (David Dowling) and Woodmere Rollex (Earl Smith) are also pegged as top contenders.
Woodmere Rollhario headlines the final A-division in race 9 for driver Campbell, trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The only two-year-old in the program with two pari-mutuel starts, Woodmere Rollhario has yet to finish worse than second in his career. Other top entrants are JJ Austin (Barrieau) and Woodmere Rollnpop (Clare MacDonald).
The $2,500 Atlantic Sires Stakes B-divisions are carded for races 5 and 8.
A field of trotters hits the track in race 4 in Memory of Boyd Leslie for a $1,750 purse with Wedgewood favoured for driver Gary Chappell and owner-trainer Glenn Claybourne of Charlottetown.
Race 7 is the Gentleman Jim’s Restaurant Pace in Memory of Cam Cameron and Minor Wisdom draws into the race with a 1:58.3 victory in her last outing. Ambyr Campbell will command the daughter of American Ideal from post 2 for trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile., Quebec.
