Driver Gilles Barrieau notched an Atlantic Sires Stakes driving double at Inverness Raceway on Monday, winning both of the $9800 Atlantic Sire Stakes ‘A’ division events on the afternoon race card.
After a cancelled race card on Sunday due to heavy rain, blue skies greeted the Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old fillies at Inverness Raceway for Monday’s rescheduled race card.
Barrieau and the three-year-old pacing filly Traces of Purple were declared the victors after the judges review of a photo finish in the first of two ‘A’ division events. The duo crossed the finish first in 1:57.2, closely followed by Filly Forty Seven and the third place finisher Goodmorning Ky. Traces of Purple is owned by Kevin Harvey of Hammonds Plains, NS, and Robert Phillips of South Pinette, PE.
Barrieau and Elektra Express also met with success in the second ‘A’ division event on the race card in a time of 1:56.4 for owner Danica Ellis of Brookfield, NS. Coming home second was Kinda Like Her and third place went to Elm Grove Lady Luck.
Meanwhile Clare MacDonald and Woodmere Lukypercy won the lone $2500 ‘B’ division event in 2:00.4 for owners Boyd MacDonald Produce Ltd. and Daniel Ross of Belfast, PE.
