A pair of two-year-old fillies by Articulator swept both ‘A’ divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes on Thursday afternoon at Red Shores in Charlottetown.
In the first division Race 9, Jann Down extended her win-streak to three races defeating her foes in 1:59.1. Owned by the Downey Stables, the Stephen Mason trainee is now three for five in her young campaign. Gilles Barrieau hustled her to the front after the favourite Dusty Lane Bria made a break behind the gate, snapping her win streak at three. Jann Down laid down fractions of :29, :58.3 and 1:28.3. Three Pink Bows was second and Lyndale Jenn was third.
The battle of the Woodmere’s came right down to the wire, but in the final strides it was Woodmere Dancenart who was able to collar Woodmere Articblue in 1:58.3. After going to the lead off of the gate
‘Dancenart’ allowed ‘Articblue’ to the lead, and she laid down fractions of :29.1, :59.2, 1:29.4. Although the two raced up and down the fields of Woodmere Farms many times, it was Dancenart who earned the bragging right Thursday taking home the lions share of the $ 13, 900 purse for owners Morah Kerr and Phonsie Maceachern. Clare MacDonald did the driving. Party Rockin and Danny Romo drove in for the third.
Another Articulator filly was victorious in one of three ‘B’ divisions on the afternoon. Windemere Belle in-line to Marc Campbell picked up the Race 7 victory for the Windemere Farm and Brittany Watts.
The win was the second of two on the day for ‘King Campbell’ who has now taken a strangle hold on the lead as top driver moving ahead by nine wins, heading into the evening card.
Other ‘B’ winners were Miss Oromocto and Miss Pamela May.
