Cape Breton Island race tracks played host to Atlantic Sires Stakes colts and fillies on the weekend, attracting large crowds to both tracks.
On Saturday afternoon the two-year-old pacing colts met for competition at Northside Downs in North Sydney, NS. Lyndale Royal and driver Brodie MacPhee captured the first of two $9620 “A” division events in a time of 2:00.1 for owner David MacDonald of Belfast, PE.
The second “A” division event on the race card went to Dukes Up with driver Earl Smith in the bike in a time of 2:01.1 for owner Reginald MacPherson of Stratford, PE.
Inverness Raceway took over the role of host on Sunday when the three-year-old pacing fillies rolled into town. Moon Landing won her fifth Atlantic Sires Stakes race in a row in a time of 1:59 with driver Danny Romo holding the lines. The filly is owned and trained by Patrick Eastwood of Saint John, NB.
The second “A” division event on the afternoon race card went to Grayland Rain and driver Marc Campbell in a time of 1:59.2 for owner Paul Gray of Pugwash, NS.
The final Atlantic Stakes “A” division event went to Honey Do Jigtime and driver Clare Donald in 2:01.1 for owners Morah Kerr of Greenfield, NS, and Phonsie MacEachern of Port Hood, NS.
